What your child will learn

Kindergarten maths is about number sense and everyday thinking, not textbook chapters. We keep it playful and hands-on, and we adjust to whatever your child's school or board (CBSE, ICSE or State) expects at this stage.

• Counting — counting objects from 1 to 10, then towards 20, with real things they can see and touch.
• Number recognition — knowing and writing the numbers, and matching a number to a group of objects.
• Shapes — circle, square, triangle and rectangle, and spotting them in the world around them.
• Sizes and comparisons — big and small, tall and short, more and less, heavy and light.
• Sorting and patterns — grouping by colour, shape or size, and continuing simple patterns.
• Position words — up, down, in, out, on, under, near and far.
• First idea of adding — putting groups together to make a bigger group, using toys and pictures.

Different schools begin formal writing at slightly different times, and some State Board and ICSE schools use their own activity books. We always keep the pace gentle and follow your child's readiness rather than forcing a set order.
