The rules themselves are short — but keeping the signs straight while also remembering “multiply before add” is where careless slips creep in. Regular, gently graded practice fixes this faster than any amount of re-explaining.

- B. −7 — integers are whole numbers and their negatives; 2.5, 3/4 and 0.1 are not.
- −15 — same signs: add the sizes, keep the minus.

- Check the order of operations out loud. Ask which step they did first — “multiply and divide before add and subtract”.
